Welcome to the Seton Hall Preparatory School Academics Web site. Seton Hall Prep is a private boys high school (grades 9-12) of the Archdiocese of Newark, located in the suburban community of West Orange, Essex County, New Jersey. The main campus, immediately accessible to Interstate Route 280 and several bus and train routes, is augmented by a nearby 44 acre site, providing auxiliary athletic facilities currently being developed with two new practice and game fields.

Founded in 1856, Seton Hall is the oldest Catholic college preparatory school in New Jersey and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

The Prep provides an academically demanding environment to approximately 980 young men from over 120 towns in the northern part of New Jersey. Seton Hall students follow a strong college preparatory program, with four-year requirements in English, Mathematics and Theology. After completing a traditional core program during the first two years, students may establish a curriculum geared to their college and career plans from a wide selection of courses in Science, History, Language, Fine Arts, English, Technology and Phys. Ed. College-level Advanced Placement courses are available in seventeen subjects.

Central to the Prep experience is the diversity of the student population. With students coming from ten counties, the breadth of background the students bring to Prep academic and extracurricular activities is a source of great pride. The Prep offers an extensive co-curricular activities program, with numerous academic, service, performance, cultural, publication, and recreation clubs and activities. Additionally, the Prep offers fifteen interscholastic sports, most with accompanying sub-varsity level teams. Click here to see "The Latest" at SHP.

Seton Hall Preparatory School is a Catholic,
college-preparatory school that serves young men.

Our mission is to foster the development of each student
as a mature member of a larger society.
Our primary concern is with the student’s intellectual growth
rooted in a spiritual awareness.
We believe that personal and social responsibility
are fundamental to such growth and maturity.

We strongly value, promote and enjoy both
our essential Catholic identity
and the cultural diversity of our students.
Our vocation is to build an academic community
centered on that identity,
open to that diversity,
and genuinely concerned with the pursuit of excellence
.
